Second coming The 38-year-old, who has spent the last two seasons playing for Ajax Cape Town, returns to the Amsterdam club to deputise for Kenneth Vermeer. Ajax coach Marco van Basten needed goalkeeping cover with Stekelenburg and Gentenaar currently sidelined by shoulder and back injuries. Vonk, who made 27 Eredivisie appearances for Ajax between 2004 and 2006, has agreed a contract until July 2009, with the possibility of an earlier release clause if convenient to both parties. Capped 43 times by South Africa, Vonk gave long service to both RKC Waalwijk and SC Heerenveen before his original transfer to Ajax.
