Petrov injury causes City concern

Manchester City FC winger Martin Petrov could be out of action for "a significant time" after sustaining knee ligament damage during Bulgaria's FIFA World Cup qualifier against Georgia on Wednesday.

'Real concern'
Manchester City manager Mark Hughes said: "Martin is going to see a couple more specialists. He has ligament damage, we're hopeful the news will be positive, but at this time the initial scans don't look very good so there is real concern he could be out for a significant time." The 29-year-old looks certain to miss City's UEFA Cup group-stage opener at home to FC Twente on 6 November and may even sit out the rest of their Group A campaign – ending at Real Racing Club on 18 December. Fitness problems have limited Petrov, the former VfL Wolfsburg and Club Atlético de Madrid midfielder, to three Premier League appearances this season.
