Markevich urging Metalist to finish the job

Myron Markevich has warned his FC Metalist Kharkiv players that the "main job is still to do" despite the 1-0 win against Galatasaray AŞ in Istanbul putting the Ukrainian club on the brink of qualification from Group B.

Myron Markevich has warned his FC Metalist Kharkiv players that the "main job is still to do" despite the 1-0 win against Galatasaray AŞ in Istanbul putting the club on the brink of qualification from UEFA Cup Group B.

Home chance
An 81st-minute strike by Edmar earned Metalist their maiden away win in UEFA club competition and lifted the club second in the Ukrainian Premier League on to four points from two matches. Should they defeat Olympiacos CFP at home in their next fixture in the section on 3 December, they would secure a place in the Round of 32 with a game to spare. Markevich, however, is keeping a sense of perspective.

'Crucial' match
"It was a nervous encounter," he said. "We could not afford to lose and kept fighting for every ball. I want to say that we deserved this win. I'm very happy and grateful to the team. Anyway, the main job is still to do – the home match against Olympiacos will be crucial."

'Lucky' pass
Ruslan Fomin created the winner at the Ali Sami Yen Stadium just two minutes after replacing fellow striker Jajá, though he admits his assist owed more to luck than to anything else. "Frankly speaking, I did not see Edmar so I was lucky to make the pass," he said. That did not bother the beneficiary, who scored for the first time in the competition this season. "Nothing happens easily in football," said Edmar, 28. "Having picked up the ball, Fomin has played it perfectly."
