Tottenham Hotspur FC have re-signed their former full-back Pascal Chimbonda for an undisclosed fee from Sunderland AFC – just six months after selling him to the north-east club.

Second spell
The 29-year-old was sold to Sunderland last July by previous manager Juande Ramos along with team-mates Teemu Tainio and Steed Malbranque, but has made a swift return to the north Londoners. Chimbonda, who has been capped once by France, scored three times in 65 league appearances during his first spell with Tottenham and played a further 16 times for Sunderland in all competitions during the first half of this season, including their last four matches.

Fellow arrivals
Tottenham first signed the Guadeloupe-born player from Wigan Athletic FC in August 2006 for €4.75m, just one season after he arrived in England from French outfit SC Bastia. The length of Chimbonda's contract is unknown, but he becomes the fourth signing made by Tottenham during the January transfer window having also brought in Jermain Defoe from Portsmouth FC, Wigan midfielder Wilson Palacios and goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini from Chelsea FC. Tottenham are away to FC Shakhtar Donetsk in the first leg of their UEFA Cup Round of 32 tie next month.
