ACF Fiorentina may be without Mario Alberto Santana for the rest of the season after the Argentinian winger suffered minor fractures in his left leg and damaged knee ligaments during the league game against Bologna FC on Monday.
Possible operation
The 27-year-old was carried off in the 63rd minute of his side's 3-1 win which lifted Fiorentina to fifth in Serie A, two points behind fourth-placed CFC Genoa. He will be assessed over the coming days to determine whether his ligament problem requires surgery. Santana, who joined the Viola in 2006 from US Città di Palermo, has missed only two Serie A games this season and played all six of his club's UEFA Champions League group-stage matches in the autumn. Cesare Prandelli's side face AFC Ajax in the UEFA Cup Round of 32 later this month.
