Lucescu agrees to stay on at Shakhtar

FC Shakhtar Donetsk coach Mircea Lucescu has been rewarded for leading the Ukrainian club into the UEFA Cup semi-finals with a two-year contract extension, his existing deal having been due to expire this summer.

FC Shakhtar Donetsk coach Mircea Lucescu has been rewarded for leading the Ukrainian club into the UEFA Cup semi-finals with a two-year contract extension.

Dynamo tests
Appointed in 2004, the 63-year-old Romanian has guided Shakhtar to championships in 2005, 2006, 2008, adding the Ukrainian Cup last year to complete the double. Lucescu's side will meet great rivals FC Dynamo Kyiv in the semi-finals of both the UEFA Cup and Ukrainian Cup, the latter tie having been moved from next Wednesday to 13 May because of both teams' European commitments.
