UEFA Europa League third qualifying round contenders FC Metalist Kharkiv have signed midfielder Oleh Shelayev as a free agent after he was released by FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk.

'Rich experience'
No contract details have been released for the 32-year-old and Metalist coach Miron Markevich said: "I don't look at players' passports. It's not their age that matters, but their ability on the pitch and how they cope with the workload. Shelayev has no problems with that and also possesses rich experience." Shelayev started his professional career in Metalist's reserve team before moving on to FC Shakhtar Donetsk and FC Metallurg Donetsk. He made his name at Dnipro, though, playing a club-record 209 top-flight games over eight seasons and representing Ukraine on 36 occasions. Meanwhile, Metalist have released wing-back Dmytro Semochko, 30, and 32-year-old defender Andriy Konyushenko ahead of the new season.
