Hamburger SV have suffered a major blow after centre-back Alex Silva was ruled out for at least seven months with a knee injury picked up in a pre-season friendly.
Huge blow
The Brazilian international turned awkwardly during Tuesday's 1-0 defeat by Austrian side FC Wacker Innsbruck and Hamburg's worst fears have been confirmed after tests revealed a torn cruciate ligament. The 24-year-old may therefore miss the entire season, an obvious blow for both HSV coach Bruno Labbadia and a player who had been seeking to re-establish himself with Brazil having won bronze with the country at last year's Olympics.
