Austria Wien lose Hattenberger

FK Austria Wien will begin their UEFA Europa League campaign without Matthias Hattenberger after the midfielder broke his cheekbone in Sunday's derby draw against SK Rapid Wien.

The 30-year-old damaged an eye socket as well as sustaining the fracture in an aerial collision during the 1-1 home draw, and has been operated on. Club doctor Alexander Kmen confirmed that Hattenberger would be out for at least a month, excluding him from Austria Wien's Group L trip to Athletic Club Bilbao on 17 September. "He will have to stay in hospital for a couple more weeks and needs complete rest," said Kmen. The Vienna team's second UEFA Europa League assignment is at home to CD Nacional on 1 October.
