Athletic Club have been deprived of Igor Martínez for next Thursday's UEFA Europa League meeting with Paris Saint-Germain FC after the 22-year-old forward suffered a fractured shin bone during his side's Liga defeat by Málaga CF.
Martínez was carried off injured in the 71st minute of Wednesday's 1-0 reverse in southern Spain, with initial reports suggesting he could be sidelined for six weeks. Any such absence would make him a doubt for the Group F double-header against FC Salzburg on 20 October and 3 November.
The news is a further blow to Leones coach Marcelo Bielsa, who has lost midfielder Ander Herrera for five weeks with damaged knee cartilage. Athletic – who have collected just one point from four Liga outings – opened their UEFA Europa League group stage campaign with a 2-1 victory at ŠK Slovan Bratislava.
