S.S. Lazio will be without Federico Marchetti for their decisive UEFA Europa League Group D meeting with Sporting Clube de Portugal on Wednesday after the goalkeeper strained a muscle in his right thigh during their 3-2 Serie A win at US Lecce.
The 28-year-old former Cagliari Calcio man was replaced by Argentinian Juan Pablo Carrizo 62 minutes into Saturday's game and is expected to be sidelined for a month. Marchetti, who has played every minute of his side's group campaign to date, joins fellow keepers Albano Bizzarri (hand) and Alessandro Berardi (elbow) on the Lazio injury list.
The Italian side currently lie third in their UEFA Europa League section on six points, level with FC Vaslui, as they prepare to host already-qualified Sporting in their final fixture. The Biancocelesti must better Vaslui's result on the final matchday as the Romanian club, who travel to bottom side FC Zürich, possess a superior head-to-head record.
