Shorn of injured attacker Denis Cheryshev for their next two UEFA Europa League fixtures, Sevilla FC are hoping for more positive news on midfielder Stéphane Mbia.

Sevilla FC have lost winger Denis Cheryshev for their next two UEFA Europa League matches, against SC Freiburg and FC Slovan Liberec, after the Russian international sustained a hamstring tear.

The 22-year-old Real Madrid CF loanee picked up the injury during Sevilla's 4-1 Liga home victory over Rayo Vallecano de Madrid on Wednesday and has been sidelined for four to six weeks.

Coach Unai Emery also faces an anxious wait on Cameroon defensive midfielder Stéphane Mbia who will undergo tests to determine whether he has broken a toe. The 27-year-old – also on loan at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán from Queens Park Rangers FC – finished the Rayo game with severe swelling to his left foot which prevented club medics making a quick diagnosis.

Sevilla, UEFA Cup winners in 2006 and 2007, opened their UEFA Europa League Group H campaign with a 2-1 win at Estoril Praia. The Andalusian side entertain Freiburg on Thursday before visiting Liberec on 24 October.
