Rijeka reiterate faith in Kek

Matjaž Kek said it was a straightforward decision to extend his stay with HNK Rijeka after the former Slovenia coach agreed a new deal to run until 2017 with the Croatian side.

Coach Matjaž Kek has signed a three-year contract extension with HNK Rijeka, keeping him at the club until June 2017.

The 52-year-old former Slovenian national team coach, who joined Rijeka in March 2013, said: "In life there are some easy and some tough decisions. For me, this was the easiest one. I feel great here. I want to thank the club for wanting me to stay. This is a big responsibility and challenge for me. That's why there was no doubt in my decision. I am sure we can achieve some great results together."

Kek brought UEFA Europa League group-stage football to Rijeka for the first time in the club's history, while they sit only a point behind GNK Dinamo Zagreb and HNK Hajduk Split after 13 games in the Croatian title race. Rijeka have one point from three matches in UEFA Europa League Group I but can leap back into contention to qualify with a home victory against Olympique Lyonnais on 7 November.
