Liverpool 2-0 Watford (Allen 35, Firmino 76)
A much-changed Liverpool side avenged their 3-0 loss to Watford in December as Jürgen Klopp's men ended a fine week on a high. The Reds' manager made eight alterations to the lineup that defeated Villarreal on Thursday and, once they had weathered some early pressure, they appeared comfortable against their mid-table opponents. Joe Allen struck the opening blow with 35 minutes gone, sliding in from Christian Benteke's knock-down to cap a well-worked free-kick.
Philippe Coutinho nearly made it 2-0 from a Benteke cross after the break, but Liverpool eventually increased their advantage when substitute Roberto Firmino strode forward and squeezed a shot through the grasp of Watford goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes. "Everything is OK – no injuries, 58 points, so not too bad," commented Klopp. "If we win all our last games, then I'll be really satisfied."
Sevilla 1-4 Granada (González 73; Isaac Cuenca 45+1 88, Babin 79, El Arabi 86pen)
As for Klopp, rotation was the order of the day for Sevilla coach Unai Emery on Sunday – with very different results. The Andalusian outfit fielded a completely fresh starting XI compared to the side that defeated Shakhtar Donetsk in midweek, and their afternoon began to go badly in first-half stoppage time. Isaac Cuenca opened the scoring for Granada, and although Diego González back-heeled a loose ball to bring the teams level again, the visitors were not finished yet.
Chasing a win to secure top-flight survival, Granada went back in front via Jean-Sylvain Babin's header, and they doubled the lead when Youssef El Arabi converted a penalty before Cuenca added his second of the game. With Sevilla unable to finish higher than seventh, the loss was low on consequences for Los Nervionenses, though Emery insisted that he has "things to change" before the UEFA Europa League final on 18 May.
