On a mixed day for Werder Bremen the news that the Bundesliga outfit will be without Torsten Frings after yet another injury setback was offset by Daniel Jensen signing a three-year contract.
'Bad luck'
The Germany midfielder has made just three Bundesliga appearances this season after failing to shake off a persistent injury to his right knee. The knock caused him to miss the start of the campaign and although the 31-year-old returned in October, the problem flared up again culminating in this morning's discovery that he partially tore ligaments on Monday. "I am having some really bad luck," said Frings, who will be absent until March, sitting out the UEFA Cup last-32 meeting with SC Braga. "I cannot explain it – I did not have a problem until yesterday."
Jensen commits
Frings's loss has perhaps been fellow midfielder Daniel Jensen's gain. The Danish international had been a peripheral figure until this season, coming to the fore for Thomas Schaaf's men in his 16 top-flight outings and six UEFA Champions League matches this term. The 28-year-old, who had attracted interest from other clubs, has signed a new deal until 2011. Coach Schaaf said: "Daniel has shown consistently this season what he had shown only occasionally in previous years. He is an important part of the team."
Moving on
Another Denmark midfielder, Leon Andreasen, has left Bremen to join English side Fulham FC on a three-and-a-half year contract. Andreasen, who has eight caps, leaves the Weserstadion after playing 32 Bundesliga games in the last two and a half campaigns. He had come to Bremen from AGF Århus in 2005, spending the second part of last term on loan at 1. FSV Mainz 05.
