Tough tie
FC Dinamo Tbilisi from Georgia, 1981 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup winners, play SK Slavia Praha in a fascinating tie. Romania's 1986 European champions, FC Steaua Bucuresti, who appointed former Italian international goalkeeper Walter Zenga as coach on Thursday, take on FK Železnik of Serbia and Montenegro in the round scheduled for 12 and 26 August.
Illychivets meet Austria
Liechtenstein's FC Vaduz, who last night progressed through a European round for the first time in eleven attempts, are drawn against KSK Beveren of Belgium. Meanwhile, of the two remaining Fair Play entrants, Swedish second division team Östers IF encounter FHK Liepajas Metalurgs of Latvia and Ukrainian European debutants FC Illychivets Mariupil play 1978 Cup Winners' Cup finalists FK Austria Wien.
Sakhnin debut
Hapoel Bnei Sakhnin FC, who became the first Arab club to win the Israeli Cup last season, will make their UEFA Cup bow against Albania's FK Partizani, and Swiss team FC Will 1900, who claimed their nation's knockout competition to earn a first European campaign despite relegation, take on FK Dukla Banská Bystrica of Slovakia.
Prize on offer
In all 64 clubs were in the hat. For the 32 survivors of the second qualifying round, the prize will be a place in the first round proper. Among them are big names such as S.S. Lazio, Parma AC, Newcastle United FC, Sporting Clube de Portugal, AJ Auxerre, VfB Stuttgart and Real Zaragoza. After the first round, the UEFA Cup will move into its inaugural group stage.
