Set to lead the line against Chelsea FC next Thursday, Marco Streller has agreed a new deal with UEFA Europa League semi-finalists FC Basel 1893 that runs until 30 June 2015.

The news that the captain of the Swiss champions had extended his contract, due to expire in summer 2014, was announced 15 minutes before Basel's first leg against Chelsea, which they lost 2-1 following a last-gasp free-kick from David Luiz.

The former Switzerland striker rejoined the St. Jakob-Park outfit in June 2007 after three and a half seasons with VfB Stuttgart and a loan spell at 1. FC Köln. The 31-year-old, who first made his debut for the club in July 2001, has scored 117 goals in 250 Basel appearances.
