Kahlenberg commits to Brøndby

Brøndby IF's Danish international Thomas Kahlenberg has signed a new contract tying him to the club until 2008.

Laudrup factor
Brøndby coach Michael Laudrup has persuaded Kahlenberg, a 20-year-old midfield player, to commit his future to the club where he has already made 56 league appearances.

'A great future'
"I have been at Brøndby since I was a youngster and it is a pleasure to play under Michael Laudrup and his assistant John Jensen," said Kahlenberg. "I am sure we are heading for a great future and I cannot imagine a better place to develop."

'One of the best'
"Through the extension of Thomas Kahlenberg's contract we have secured one of the club's best players for a considerable amount of time," said Brøndby general secretary Emil Bakkendorff. "In spite of his age, he has established himself as a regular under Laudrup within a very short time.

Happy ending
"He has made his first appearance for Denmark and will undoubtedly play a lot of international football in the future. He is constantly developing. Michael Laudrup and John Jensen have been hoping to sign a long-term contract with him so we are all happy about this extension."

European challenge
Brøndby face Czech side FK Viktoria Žižkov in the second leg of their UEFA Cup first-round tie on 16 October. The Danish team lead 1-0 from the first leg in Brondby.
