Article body
FC Basel have lost Switzerland midfield player Benjamin Huggel for up to six weeks after he was hurt helping them reach the UEFA Cup second round.
Painful injury
The 26-year-old broke two ribs in a collision with an opponent in the 77th minute of last night's 2-1 home defeat by Malatyaspor that saw Basel scrape through 3-2 on aggregate. Huggel has been ruled out for at least a month and will definitely miss his club's next match in the competition.
Bright future
Huggel is one of the rising stars of coach Christian Gross's talented Basel squad and has also made an impact on the international stage. After making his debut as a substitute in an August friendly against France, he made his first start in last Saturday's 2-0 UEFA EURO 2004™ victory against the Republic of Ireland that took the Swiss through to the finals.
