Gerrard joy at Anfield agreement

Liverpool FC captain Steven Gerrard said he was "absolutely delighted" to sign a new contract.

Third new contract
The 23-year-old midfield player joined Liverpool as a junior and rose to the first team, recently taking over the captaincy from Finnish international defender Sami Hyypiä. "I'm absolutely delighted," Gerrard told the club's official website. "I've always wanted to stay. I've been here since I was eight and I've never wanted to play anywhere else. I want to stay here for as long as possible."

'Vision for the future'
Liverpool manager Gérard Houllier also expressed his pleasure at the news, saying: "After Chris Kirkland and Jamie Carragher signed new contracts, I think Stevie signing a new deal is exciting for the supporters. It shows the players at the club share our vision for the future."
