UEFA Europa League holders Club Atlético de Madrid have signed defender Filipe Luís from RC Deportivo La Coruña for a reported €12m fee.
The left-back has penned a five-year deal with the Rojiblancos and was unveiled in the Spanish capital on Monday. Capped once by Brazil in October 2009, the former Figueirense FC player scored six times in 111 Liga appearances for Deportivo having arrived in Galicia from Real Madrid CF – where he featured for the B team – in 2006.
The 24-year-old suffered a broken leg in Depor's Liga encounter with Athletic Club in January, but fought back to fitness in less than four months to complete the remainder of the season. He joins fellow signings Fran Mérida, Diego Costa and Mario Suárez at Atlético as Quique Sánchez Flores's side look to defend their UEFA Europa League title from the group stage.
