Fenerbahçe go top, Rashford does it again

Fenerbahçe recorded a big result in Turkey as they beat Beşiktaş to leapfrog them at the summit after Marcus Rashford grabbed the headlines with another double for Manchester United.

Teenage forward Marcus Rashford made another big splash as Manchester United returned to the Premier League in style, while their next UEFA Europa League opponents Liverpool lost in the English League Cup final.

Fresh from scoring twice for United on his debut against Midtjylland on Thursday, Rashford hit another double in his first top-flight outing to help the Red Devils see off Arsenal 3-2. It was a painful weekend for Liverpool, on the other hand, as they lost on penalties to Manchester City at Wembley, while Tottenham Hotspur came from behind to defeat Swansea and stay two points behind league leaders Leicester City.

In Germany, Dortmund had to dig deep in their 3-1 victory against Hoffenheim, grabbing all their goals in the last ten minutes, though Bayer Leverkusen suffered a 3-1 reverse at Mainz. There was frustration too for Valencia as they lost to fellow UEFA Europa League hopefuls Athletic, while Villarreal beat Levante and Sevilla lost to Liga pacesetters Barcelona.

Fenerbahçe are top in Turkey, meanwhile, after Nani completed a 2-0 victory on Monday over the Beşiktaş side that began the day there.
