Prolific Cardetti seals PSG move

UEFA Cup contenders Paris Saint-Germain FC have signed Argentinian forward Martin Cardetti.

Paris Saint-Germain FC have strengthened their attack for their UEFA Cup campaign with the signing of Club Atlético River Plate striker Martin Cardetti on a four-year contract.

Top scorer
The left-footed Cardetti, top scorer in the Argentinian championship last season with 30 goals, joins his compatriots Mauricio Pochettino and Gabriel Heinze in the French capital.

Free transfer
PSG attempted to sign the player earlier this year but his club decided not to let him go. However, when Cardetti failed to agree on a new contract at River Plate, PSG wasted little time in moving in to sign him on a free transfer.

Expected to thrive
Nicknamed "El Chapulin" (the Grasshopper), after a character in a South American children's television show, Cardetti is expected to thrive playing in front of Brazilian FIFA World Cup sensation Ronaldinho at the Parc des Princes.

Other signings
Coach Luis Fernandez, determined to improve on last season's fourth-place finish in Le Championnat and impress in Europe, has already added Everton FC midfield player Alex Nyarko, initially on loan but with a view to a €4.5m transfer in January, and Fluminense FC's Brazilian international defender Paulo Cesar to his ranks.
