Metalurh seek new direction

Ukrainian Premier League club FC Metalurh Donetsk have parted company with Russian coach Vitaly Shevchenko.

European qualification
The Russian coach had just guided the team to a third-placed finish, earning a spot in the 2005/06 UEFA Cup second qualifying round. Shevchenko, 53, signed a short-term deal when he took over from Slavoljub Muslin during the winter break, but the club have decided against offering him a new contract.

Foreign targets
"Shevchenko has gone home to Moscow," said Metalurh director Yury Gryadushchy. "We are holding negotiations with a number of coaches, including some foreign ones."
