Defender Koji Nakata is a serious doubt for FC Basel 1893's UEFA Cup Round of 32 tie against Sporting Clube de Portugal after breaking two ribs at the weekend.

Collapsed lung
The 28-year-old Japanese international suffered the injury in a collision during Sunday's 2-0 Swiss Super League defeat at BSC Young Boys, which also resulted in a collapsed lung. As a consequence, Nakata experienced serious breathing difficulties and is expected to remain in hospital for several days. Doctors are unable to say exactly how long Basel will be without Nakata, who has made 14 league appearances this season and featured in five UEFA Cup matches. The Sporting tie takes place on 13 and 21 February.
