1. FFC Turbine Potsdam defeated 1. FFC Frankfurt 3-0 on Saturday to win the German Women's Cup and complete a cup double after lifting the UEFA Women's Cup this time last week.
Early goals
First-half goals from German internationals Conny Pohlers and Petra Wimbersky put Potsdam in full control and they did not loosen their grip on the match after the break, sealing a comfortable 3-0 win when Anja Mittag struck ten minutes from the end.
UEFA Cup lineup
Turbine coach Bernd Schröder stuck with the same starting lineup that impressed in both legs of the UEFA Cup final against Djurgården/Älvsjö, with Pohlers, Wimbersky and Mittag up front. Frankfurt went into the match with Birgit Prinz nursing a thigh injury.
Pohlers perfection
Potsdam soon took control but had to wait until midway through the first half before cashing in on their superiority. Navina Omilade released Pohlers with a delightful pass and the German international chipped the ball over Katrin Kliehm's head before firing past Frankfurt goalkeeper Marleen Wissink from the edge of the area.
Prinz blow
Only two minutes after falling behind the German champions were dealt a further blow when Prinz had to limp off with a thigh injury. Trailing by a goal and with their star player no longer on the field, Frankfurt were in danger of completely falling apart and Potsdam made them pay eleven minutes from half-time. Jennifer Zietz robbed Renate Lingor of possession in midfield, fed the ball into Wimbersky's path and the striker made no mistake from inside the penalty area to double Potsdam's advantage.
Mittag scores
Potsdam were content on defending their lead after the break but they did do further damage ten minutes from the end. Christiane pulled the ball back for Mittag and the German international fired passed Wissink. Pia Wunderlich sealed a miserable afternoon for Frankfurt when she missed a penalty in the final minute.
