Frankfurt find goalscoring form

Deposed holders 1. FFC Frankfurt are on course to return to the UEFA Women's Cup in 2007/08 after surging to the Bundesliga summit with an 8-0 victory on Sunday.

They may have endured an unusually early UEFA Women's Cup quarter-final exit at the end of last year, but deposed holders 1. FFC Frankfurt are on course to return to the competition in 2007/08 after surging to the top of the Bundesliga as the league resumed following the winter break.

Frankfurt hit form
Frankfurt had missed their chance to overtake leaders FCR 2001 Duisburg on 4 February when they were held 0-0 by FFC Heike Rheine in a game postponed from September due to their European campaign. But having been a point behind on Sunday morning, they struck eight without reply at point-less FFC Brauweiler Pulheim while Duisburg drew 2-2 at Hamburger SV.

Duisburg comeback
For Frankfurt, Petra Wimbersky was on target twice and Birgit Prinz, Kerstin Garefrekes, Christina Zerbe, Sandra Smisek, Nia Künzer and Renate Lingor completed the win. Meanwhile, Duisburg were 2-0 down at the hour mark at Hamburg after Silva Salander's penalty and a Shelley Thompson goal put the hosts in control. But with a quarter of an hour left Patricia Hanebeck pulled one back, and four minutes later Inka Grings equalised to keep Duisburg in touch with Frankfurt one month ahead of their pivotal league encounter.

Potsdam fifth
SG Essen-Schönebeck are third, eight points behind Frankfurt, after a 2-1 victory at home to VfL Wolfsburg but reigning champions 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam, who also exited the UEFA Women's Cup in the quarter-finals, are eleven adrift of the leaders in fifth despite a 3-0 success against SC Freiburg.
