Wimbersky signs Frankfurt deal

Two-time UEFA Women's Cup winners 1. FFC Frankfurt have extended Germany striker Petra Wimbersky's contract by a year until the summer of 2008.

Two-time UEFA Women's Cup winners 1. FFC Frankfurt have made further preparations for a return to the competition next season by extending striker Petra Wimbersky's contract by a year until summer 2008.

Latest deal
Holders Frankfurt exited the European competition in the quarter-finals this term but lead the Frauen Bundesliga and should they emerge as champions, they will be assured of a place in 2007/08. Having already agreed a new deal with forward Birgit Prinz and secured the signing of fellow German international Conny Pohlers from rivals 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam, Frankfurt general manager Siegfried Diedrich has confirmed that Pohlers' former club-mate Wimbersky, who made the switch west last summer and has since scored 13 league goals, has committed to another 12 months.

'Hungry team'
Diedrich said: "We are very pleased that Petra Wimbersky has opted for an early extension with us despite strong interest from other clubs." The 24-year-old Wimbersky, who has won 61 caps for Germany and played against Frankfurt for Potsdam in last season's UEFA Women's Cup final, added: "I have really settled well in Frankfurt and feel great within the team, so I look forward to continuing to play in a hungry team and want to achieve as much as possible this season and the next with 1. FFC Frankfurt."
