With 1. FFC Frankfurt on course to return to the UEFA Women's Cup next season, they have continued to ensured they have the strongest possible squad by securing playmaker Renate Lingor on a new one-year contract.
Honours
Lingor, capped 124 times by Germany, has been part of both of Frankfurt's European triumphs in 2001/02 and 2005/06 among a stack of club and international honours, but was also involved as they exited in the quarter-finals this season to Kolbotn IL. With Frankfurt unbeaten in the Bundesliga and a point clear of FCR 2001 Duisburg with a game in hand, another UEFA Women's Cup campaign looks likely. The 31-year-old Lingor joins Germany team-mates Birgit Prinz and Petra Wimbersky in committing for next season, along with new signing from 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam, Conny Pohlers.
Relishing challenge
Voted third in the 2006 FIFA World Player of the Year poll, Lingor said: "It still remains a challenge to reach the high goals set by 1.FFC Frankfurt together with my team-mates. Also, I find it exciting to pass on my experiences to our younger, very talented players." General manager Siegfried Dietrich added: "We are pleased that not only one of the most experienced playmakers at international level has chosen to stay with us, but also one of women's football's greatest personalities."
