Marta treble seals Umeå success

Umeå IK put down a marker prior to their UEFA Women's Cup entry in October as the two-time European champions withstood an AIK Solna comeback to win the Swedish Cup final 4-3.

Flying start
Beaten finalists in the UEFA Women's Cup last season, Umeå have also lost at that stage in the last three Swedish Cups - having won the previous three. But it seemed that run was about to end when Marta struck on ten and 14 minutes for Umeå and Madelaine Edlund made it 3-0 just before the break.

Marta hat-trick
However, AIK regrouped and Laura Kalmari struck within seconds of the interval and Frida Höglund pulled another back soon after before equalising with ten minutes left. Umeå had other ideas, though, and four minutes from time FIFA Women's World Player of the Year Marta completed her hat-trick.

League bid
The league champions Umeå will now look to retain that title and complete the domestic double, and with five games left they are four points clear of LdB FC Malmö - who they welcome when fixtures resume on Saturday. In the UEFA Women's Cup second qualifying round in October, Umeå meet WFC Rossiyanka of Russia, Romania's CFF Clujana and Belarussian champions Universitet Vitebsk.
