Brøndby and Duisburg enjoy delayed start

Christensen winner
Group B4 in Ukraine was meant to start on Thursday with the other three second qualifying round mini-tournaments but Brøndby's equipment was delayed in transit and the first two set of matches were put back 24 hours to Friday and Sunday. Brøndby were given a tough opening match by UD Levante but last season's quarter-finalists, who have never fallen at the group stage, prevailed thanks to Christensen.

Duisburg delight
In the other game, German side FCR 2001 Duisburg made an excellent European debut by beating mini-tournament hosts WFC Naftochimik 5-1. Simone Laudehr scored on 12 and 28 minutes to settle Duisburg nerves and Inka Grings converted a penalty early in the second half. Grings struck again in the 81st minute and substitute Hasret Kayikci swiftly added another before a Rocio Margarita Hernández consolation. Duisburg now play Levante and Naftochimik face Brøndby.

Saturday games
Fixtures in the other three pools continue on Saturday with holders 1. FFC Frankfurt needing a good result against Group B1 hosts Røa IL to save their campaign after losing 1-0 to Zvezda-2005 on Thursday; the Russian side face Glasgow City LFC, beaten 6-1 by the Norwegian club. In Group B2 Umeå IK and ASD CF Bardolino Verona aim to follow up opening wins as they meet Alma KTZH and Valur Reykjavík respectively, while in Group B3 hosts Olympique Lyonnais and Arsenal LFC will aim to do likewise against FC Zürich Frauen and SV Neulengbach. Arsenal manager Vic Akers, whose team beat Zürich 7-2, said: "When we played Neulengbach last year, they were in the game for 25 minutes and then collapsed [to a 7-0 loss]. We won't be looking to concede against Neulengbach and I hope that we don't."
