Olympique Lyonnais have one foot in the UEFA Women's Cup semi-finals after a 5-0 win against ASD CF Bardolino Verona at the Bentegodi Stadium.
Comfortable win
Lotta Schelin struck twice early on for Lyon and Camille Abily made it three at the break before substitutes Corine Franco and Sandrine Brétigny put the game further out of Bardolino's reach. The Italian champions have a tough task at Stade de Gerland on 18 November.
Schelin double
The visitors, who like Bardolino reached the semi-finals for the first time last season, took the lead after eleven minutes when a good pass from playmaker Louisa Necib found Schelin in the box and the Swedish striker beat Carla Brunozzi with a precise shot which cannoned in off the far post. Three minutes later, Schelin won possession on the left and made it two for the French champions from a tight angle.
Three down
Bardolino responded immediately as Valentina Boni's pass allowed Patrizia Panico to shoot but goalkeeper Véronique Pons saved well. Schelin then turned provider, dribbling past two defenders on the left and crossing in the 33rd minute. The Bardolino defence failed to clear and the ball ended up with Abily, who scored the third with her right foot.
Substitute scorers
Ten minutes after the break, Katia sent a header just over from Schelin's cross from the left, but Lyon's fourth was not long in coming, with Franco finding the target from 25 metres just a minute after coming on as a substitute. Another second-half replacement, Brétigny, scored the fifth two minutes from time to virtually settle the tie.
