Motivated Marta gunning for Arsenal

Brazilian star Marta may have sat out most of Umeå IK's 3-2 UEFA Women's Cup quarter-final first-leg defeat at Arsenal LFC due to injury but the striker aims to play a big part in Wednesday's return on home soil.

Hip problem
The 22-year-old striker, who is yet to decide whether to sign for another season at Umeå or join Los Angeles Sol in the new American professional league, was an 85th-minute substitute in England due to a hip problem. Although Marta had to leave training early on Tuesday, she is keen to play through the pain for the Swedish champions, chasing their first European title.

Edlund concussed
"I'd love to play, and I think I'll be able to," Marta told newspaper Västerbottens-Kuriren. "Our aim is for me to play the whole match. It's still not fully OK, I still have some pain when I run or shoot. I'm sure I can stand a bit of pain, since I'll go on holiday afterwards." She could take the starting place of Madeleine Edlund, taken to hospital with concussion during the first leg.

Omen
Arsenal have happy memories of their previous trip to northern Sweden in April 2007, when a last-gasp 1-0 victory in the first leg of the final set them up to win what remains their only UEFA Women's Cup to date. Having seen his side turn Thursday's game with two late goals, Arsenal manager Vic Akers says his team could press more than they did in the meeting 18 months ago, when Umeå dominated for long spells.

Positive approach
"In the last tie it worked for us when we went out there with the play we set up," Akers said. "I think we'll probably be a bit more offensive, if not from the start. We'll try and put as much pressure on them as we possibly can. They have players who can play and come forward and give you a big problem, so maybe we need to pen them back a bit." Striker Julie Fleeting, who came off the bench to make it 2-2 in the first leg having been left out of the first XI because of a lack of match fitness, started the FA Women's Premier League Cup tie against Leicester City LFC on Sunday and scored a hat-trick in a 7-0 triumph.
