The first UEFA Women's Champions League final will be held at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez stadium in Getafe on 20 May and the build-up continues with the kick-off event on Wednesday.

Replacing the former UEFA Women's Cup, the UEFA Women's Champions League will conclude each season in the same city as the men's UEFA Champions League as part of a week-long festival of football. Getafe's Teatro Federico García Lorca will play host to Wednesday's kick-off event from 17.30CET, conducted by Milene Domingues and featuring a theatre and dance performance directed by German artist Enno Uhde, who has been appointed by UEFA to prepare the opening ceremonies for both Madrid UEFA Champions League finals,

During the event the new UEFA Women's Champions League trophy will be handed over by UEFA to the mayor of Getafe and will go on public display during a Trophy Tour, with details to be announced shortly. Details of ticket sales for the final will also be given – prices of €5 and €3 are intended to encourage youngsters and families to attend. The official adidas match ball designed for both Madrid finals will also be presented.

Among the invited guests on Wednesday will be Alfonso Pérez, the 2010 UEFA Women's Champions League final ambassador. The former Spanish international striker, who played for Real Madrid CF, Real Betis Balompié, FC Barcelona and Olympique de Marseille, was born in Getafe and the stadium is named after him. Also on 10 March the first legs of the quarter-finals will be played, with reigning European champions FCR 2001 Duisburg at home to Arsenal LFC, Umeå IK facing Montpellier Hérault SC, Olympique Lyonnais meeting ASD Torres Calcio, and 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam up against Røa IL.
