Titleholders 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam safely secured their place in the round of 16 alongside former champions FCR 2001 Duisburg, who set up a meeting with Danish side Fortuna Hjørring.

FCR 2001 Duisburg and holders 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam were among nine teams to progress from the UEFA Women's Champions League round of 32 on Wednesday.

Potsdam held a 9-0 lead over Finnish debutants Åland United ahead of a home second leg which they won 6-0, with six different scorers. In the round of 16 on 3/4 and 10/11 November they will play SV Neulengbach, who overturned a 1-0 first-leg deficit with a 3-0 win against PAOK FC thanks to a hat-trick from Nina Burger.

Duisburg also prevailed 6-0 at home, Inka Grings matching her first-leg feat with four goals in an 11-0 aggregate defeat of Kazakhstan's CSHVSM. They now take on 2003 runners-up Fortuna Hjørring, who, having produced an impressive 8-0 first-leg win against CF Bardolino Verona, triumphed 6-1 in the return.

Icelandic teams have traditionally outperformed Spanish sides in women's club competitions but Rayo Vallecano de Madrid's 3-0 triumph over Valur Reykjavík last month sent them to Iceland on top. Their reward for a 1-1 second-leg draw and 4-1 overall success looks like being a meeting with 2007 champions Arsenal LFC, who defend a 3-1 lead at home to ŽFK Mašinac on Thursday when seven remaining ties conclude.

Russia's Zvezda-2005, runners-up to Duisburg in 2009, matched their 2-1 first-leg victory against Apollon Limassol LFC. They will now hope to reverse an away-goals defeat by Røa IL in the last 16 last season, the Norwegian side advancing past Zorka-BDU 2-1 on aggregate.

Brøndby IF, 2-1 victors in the first leg, edged past RTP Unia Racibórz on away goals after losing the home return 1-0. They will discover their opponents tomorrow, as will Italy's Torres, who beat FC Zürich Frauen 3-2 and 7-3 on aggregate.
