The Estadio Alfredo Di Stéfano in Madrid plays host to Real Madrid against Celtic on Matchday 2 of UEFA Women's Champions League Group B.

Both sides suffered Matchday 1 defeats, Madrid losing 3-2 at Chelsea while Celtic's group stage debut resulted in a 0-2 reverse at home to Twente.

Form guide

Real Madrid

This is Madrid's first match against Scottish opposition in UEFA competition.

They kicked off this season's European campaign – their fourth group stage appearance in succession – with defeat by Chelsea in London. Two goals in the first half-hour left Madrid with work to do before Alba Redondo (39) halved the deficit before the break. Chelsea re-established the two-goal cushion early in the second half, meaning Linda Caicedo's 84th-minute goal was only a consolation.

Madrid have advanced from their group only once, on their competition debut in 2021/22 when they finished second in a section featuring Paris Saint-Germain, Kharkiv and Breidablik. They lost to fellow Spanish side Barcelona 3-8 on aggregate (1-3 h, 2-5 a) in the quarter-finals.

Las Blancas qualified for this season's group stage by defeating Sporting CP over two legs in round 2. Melanie Leupolz scored in added time in Portugal to secure a 2-1 first-leg away win on 19 September, before Sandie Toletti struck twice in a 3-1 victory in Madrid a week later.

Madrid were second in the Spanish Liga in 2023/24, 15 points behind Barcelona. It was the third time in four seasons they had finished as runners-up.

Celtic

Celtic's only previous experience of Spanish opposition was their first ever Women's Champions League match, a 1-2 defeat by Levante in the round 1 semi-finals in 2021/22. Caitlin Hayes scored the Scottish side's goal.

Their Group B opener this season ended in defeat against Twente in Hamilton on 8 October.

Celtic kicked off this season's European campaign with a 3-1 win at Finnish side KuPS Kuopio in round 1 on 4 September. Roosa Ariyo put the hosts in front after 18 minutes but Saoirse Noonan's second-half reply took the match into extra time, where Noonan added two more goals to complete her hat-trick and ensure progress.

They next defeated Lithuanian outfit in the round 1 final three days later, Shannon McGregor and Katherine Loferski earning a 2-0 victory for Elena Sadiku's side.

The Ghirls then overcame Vorskla in a two-legged round 2 tie. Both matches took place in Airdrie, with goals from Murphy Agnew (5) in the first leg and Emma Lawton (52) and McGregor (63) in the second earning a 3-0 aggregate victory. As a result, Celtic have become the first Scottish side to feature in the group stage.

This is Celtic's third Women's Champions League campaign. Their participations in 2021/22 and 2023/24 both ended in round 1.

After taking charge in January, Sadiku helped Celtic become Scottish Women's Premier League champions for the first time. They had an identical record of W26 D4 L2 with Glasgow rivals Rangers, but their superior goal difference clinched the title.
