Former champions Wolfsburg and Lyon, who have met in four UEFA Women's Champions League finals, renew acquaintances in Germany on Matchday 2 of the 2024/25 competition.
Lyon began Group A with a 3-0 victory over Galatasaray on 8 October while Wolfsburg went down 0-1 to Roma on the same day
Previous meetings
This is the teams' first meeting since the 2020 final, when Lyon ran out 3-1 winners in San Sebastian. Eugénie Le Sommer (25), Saki Kumagai (44) and Sara Björk Gunnarsdóttir (88) were all on target as OL claimed their seventh European title, Alexandra Popp (58) providing Wolfsburg's sole response.
The 2013, 2016 and 2018 finals were also contested between the sides. Wolfsburg won the first on their competition debut, a Martina Müller penalty (73) enough for victory at Stamford Bridge in May 2013.
Three years later, Lyon had revenge in Reggio Emilia, Italy with 4-3 penalty shoot-out victory after a 1-1 draw, and also triumphed 4-1 after extra time in the 2018 final in Kyiv.
Lyon were again victorious in the 2018/19 quarter-finals. Le Sommer scored three times in two victories (2-1 h, 4-2 a) on the French side's way to their sixth title.
Wolfsburg's only other win against Lyon was a 1-0 away success in the 2016/17 quarter-final second leg, although they bowed out having lose 0-2 in the home first leg.
