Home record vs French clubs W0 D0 L1

This is third season in succession that Roma have faced a French team, and they have failed to win any of the previous three matches.

They lost both group games against Paris Saint-Germain last season (1-2 a, 1-3 h) and they drew 0-0 with Paris FC in the round 1 final the previous season, although they did progress 5-4 on penalties in that contest.

They opened Group A with a 1-0 win against two-time champions Wolfsburg in Rome on 8 October, a 14th-minute Manuela Gugliano penalty separating the sides. Gugliano (45) was also on the scoresheet against Galatasaray and had a further penalty saved, with five other scorers in a 6-1 victory in Istanbul.

This is Roma's third appearance in the Women's Champions League group stage after also featuring in both 2022/23 and 2023/24.

Alessandro Spugna's side reached the quarter-finals on their competition debut in 2022/23, losing to eventual champions Barcelona 1-6 on aggregate (0-1 h, 1-5 a).

Roma finished fourth in Group C last season in a section that included Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern München and Ajax, their only victory coming against the latter.

In qualifying for this season's group stage, Roma overcame Swiss opponents FCCF Servette in round 2. Evelyne Viens scored twice in a 3-1 first-leg victory in Rome on 18 September, with Giulia Dragoni and Valentina Giacinti both finding the net twice in a 7-2 win in Geneva eight days later.

Giugliano and Giacinti scored eight of Roma's ten goals in the 2023/24 group stage.

The She-Wolves claimed their first ever domestic double last season with success in both league and cup.

Lyon

Record vs Italian clubs W8 D2 L2 F37 A8
Away record vs Italian clubs W3 D1 L2

Lyon have lost just two of their 12 encounters with Italian teams, although they have won only one of the last four (D2 L1).

Their last six have all been against Juventus, most recently two draws (1-1 a, 0-0 h) in the 2022/23 group stage.

OL were victorious in three of their first four games in Italy (L1) but failed to win either of their last two (D1 L1).

Kadidiatou Diani scored twice either side of a Vanessa Gilles header in a 3-0 victory at home to Galatasaray in their Group A opener this season, while Wendie Renard and Lindsey Horan, a penalty, struck in a 2-0 win at Wolfsburg on 17 October.

The French outfit reached a record 11th final last season, losing 0-2 to Barcelona on 25 May in Bilbao. Their last success in the competition came when they defeated the same opponents 3-1 in the 2022 final in Turin.

In 2023/24, Lyon drew with Brann and Slavia Praha (both 2-2) but won their other four Group B fixtures to finish first in a section that also contained St. Pölten.

In her first season at the club, Diani topped the scoring charts in the Women's Champions League last season with eight goals – two more than team-mate Hegerberg, the competition's all-time record scorer.

A Lyon side coached by Sonia Bompastor (who was replaced in the summer by Joe Montemurro) won their 17th league title in 2023/24, losing just one game. Those 17 championship successes have come in the past 18 seasons, the exception in 2020/21 when they finished runners-up.
