Twente have now won just one of their six encounters with Spanish teams, losing the other five.
The Dutch side lost consecutive round of 16 ties against Barcelona in 2015/16 and 2016/17, failing to score in any of the four games. They first went down 0-2 on aggregate (0-1 h, 0-1 a) before a 0-5 aggregate defeat a year later (0-1 a, 0-4 h).
They did overcome a Spanish team at the fifth time of asking, securing a 3-2 comeback victory at home to Levante in the round 1 final last season – the only time they have avoided defeat in three home games against Spanish visitors.
In their first two Group B encounters, Kayleigh van Dooren struck late in both halves (44, 85) as Twente overcame Scottish champions Celtic 2-0 in Hamilton, before Nikée van Dijk's second-half strike on Matchday 2 was not enough to prevent a 1-3 home defeat by Chelsea.
This is the Dutch side's tenth Women's Champions League appearance but the first time they have reached the group stage.
Under the previous format they reached the round of 16 on three occasions, most recently in 2019/20 when they lost to eventual runners-up Wolfsburg 0-7 (0-6 a, 0-1 h). Barcelona were their conquerors on the two previous occasions they reached the same stage – in 2015/16 and 2016/17.
After a 7-0 victory over Cardiff City to kick off their 2024/25 Women's Champions League campaign on 4 September, Charlotte Hulst and Van Dijk both scored twice in a 5-0 victory over Valur three days later in the round 1 final.
Twente's round 2 encounter with Croatian champions Osijek was another one-sided affair. Van Dijk was again on target in a 4-1 first-leg victory on 18 September, before the Tukkers again scored four in the second leg in Netherlands to complete an 8-1 aggregate win.
Joran Pot's side have won nine of their 14 games in all competitions in 2024/25 (D2 L3).
Twente won a record-extending ninth Dutch league title last term, losing just twice in their 22 games to finish two points ahead of previous champions Ajax.
