Celtic continue their search for their first UEFA Women's Champions League points at home to Real Madrid on Matchday 5.

The hosts, who have lost all four of their Group B games, can no longer reach the quarter-finals after a 0-3 defeat at Chelsea last time out, while Madrid confirmed their progression with a 3-2 win at Twente on 20 November.

Madrid They will be confirmed in second place if they do not beat Celtic and Chelsea win at home to Twente in the section's other Matchday 5 game, or if Madrid lose and Chelsea draw.

Previous meetings

Madrid were 4-0 winners at home to Celtic on Matchday 2, the first meeting between the two sides. It took just seven minutes for Caroline Weir to break the deadlock, with Signe Bruun (72), Caroline Møller (80) and Linda Caicedo (83pen) on the scoresheet in the second half.

That Matchday 2 defeat was only Celtic's second fixture against a team from Spain. The first came against Levante in the round 1 semi-finals in 2021/22, the Spanish side winning 2-1.

This is Celtic's first home fixture against Spanish visitors.

Aside from the reverse fixture against Real Madrid and the away defeat at Chelsea, Celtic have lost at home to Twente (0-2) and Chelsea (1-2) in this season's group stage. They have conceded at least twice in all four fixtures, Murphy Agnew scoring their only goal.

Celtic kicked off this season's European campaign with a 3-1 win at Finnish side KuPS Kuopio in round 1 on 4 September. Saoirse Noonan's second-half equaliser took the match into extra time, where Noonan added two more goals to complete her hat-trick and ensure progress.

They next defeated Lithuanian outfit Gintra in the round 1 final three days later, Shannon McGregor and Katherine Loferski earning a 2-0 victory for Elena Sadiku's side.

The Ghirls then overcame Vorskla in a two-legged round 2 tie. Both matches took place in Airdrie, with goals from Agnew (5) in the first leg and Emma Lawton (52) and McGregor (63) in the second earning a 3-0 aggregate victory. As a result, Celtic became the first Scottish side to feature in the group stage.

This is Celtic's third Women's Champions League campaign. Their participations in 2021/22 and 2023/24 both ended in round 1.

Celtic have won seven of their 12 home games in all competitions in 2024/25 (D2 L3).

After taking charge in January, Sadiku helped Celtic become Scottish Women's Premier League champions for the first time. They had an identical record of W26 D4 L2 with Glasgow rivals Rangers, but their superior goal difference clinched the title.

This is Madrid's first match in Scotland, the reverse fixture on Matchday 2 in Spain their only previous meeting with Scottish opponents.

After losing 3-2 at Chelsea on Matchday 1, Real Madrid have scored 14 goals in winning their last three group games, the 7-0 success at home to Twente on Matchday 3 their biggest ever European win.

Caicedo and Bruun – both on target on Matchday 4 – are Madrid's joint-top scorers in the group stage having scored three apiece.

Madrid are in the group stage for the fourth consecutive season.

They have advanced from their group only once before, on their competition debut in 2021/22 when they finished second in a section featuring Paris Saint-Germain, Kharkiv and Breidablik. They lost to fellow Spanish side Barcelona 3-8 on aggregate (1-3 h, 2-5 a) in the quarter-finals.

Las Blancas qualified for this season's group stage by defeating Sporting CP over two legs in round 2. Melanie Leupolz scored in added time in Portugal to secure a 2-1 first-leg away win on 19 September, before Sandie Toletti struck twice in a 3-1 victory in Madrid a week later.

Alberto Toril's side have won seven of their eight away games this season (L1).

Madrid were second in the Spanish Liga in 2023/24, 15 points behind Barcelona. It was the third time in four seasons they had finished as runners-up.
