First place in UEFA Women's Champions League Group B is on the line as Real Madrid welcome Chelsea on Matchday 6.

Both teams are already through to the quarter-finals. Madrid were 3-0 winners at Celtic on Matchday 5, while Chelsea made it five wins from five with a 6-1 home success against Twente on 11 December.

Chelsea, 3-2 winners at home to their Spanish opponents on Matchday 1, need a draw in Madrid to finish top of the group, while the hosts would finish above them should they win.

Goals in the first half-hour from Sjoeke Nüsken (2) and Guro Reiten (27pen) put Chelsea in charge before Alba Redondo (39) halved Madrid's deficit before the break. Chelsea re-established the two-goal cushion early in the second half through Mayra Ramírez (53), meaning Linda Caicedo's 84th-minute goal was not enough.

The two teams also met on Matchday 1 last season. An Olga Carmona double for Madrid either side of headers from Niamh Charles and Sam Kee ensured a draw in Spain on 15 November 2023.

Chelsea claimed the three points at Stamford Bridge on Matchday 5. All three goals came in the second half, a Mylène Chavas own goal ultimately separating the teams.

Chelsea were victorious in the first-ever meeting between the two sides on 23 November 2022 thanks to second-half goals from Sophie Ingle and Erin Cuthbert at Kingsmeadow.

The reverse fixture in Madrid two weeks later ended all square, Caroline Weir putting the hosts in front in the first half before an own goal from goalkeeper Misa Rodríguez levelled the break.

Aside from their five games against Chelsea over the last three seasons, Real Madrid have faced English teams on three other occasions – all against Manchester City (W2 D1).

After their Matchday 1 loss at Chelsea, Madrid have scored 17 goals in winning their last four Group B games, the 7-0 success at home to Twente on Matchday 3 their biggest-ever European win.

Chelsea's sole Women's Champions League final appearance, in 2021, ended in defeat against Spanish opposition, a 0-4 loss to Barcelona in Gothenburg.

The same side eliminated Chelsea at the semi-final stage in the last two editions of the Women's Champions League, 1-2 on aggregate on both occasions.

Chelsea have won three of their last four fixtures against teams from Spain having been without a victory in the previous four. They have never lost in Spain.

The Blues have scored 17 goals in their five Group B wins this season, with six different scorers on target against Twente last time out.
