Twente and Celtic sign off their 2024/25 Women's Champions League campaigns when they meet in Enschede on Matchday 6.

Both suffered Group B defeats on Matchday 5, Twente going down 1-6 at Chelsea while Celtic lost 0-3 at home to Real Madrid.

Neither team can reach the quarter-finals, but Celtic can claim third place at Twente's expense should they win by at least two goals.

Previous meetings

Twente's first-ever group stage contest ended in a 2-0 victory at Celtic on 8 October. Kayleigh van Dooren struck late in both halves (44, 85) as the Dutch side overcame the Scottish champions in Hamilton.

Twente's other game against a team from Scotland was a 0-2 home defeat by Glasgow City in the 2013/14 qualifying round. Indeed, before Matchday 1 that was the last time Scottish and Dutch teams had met in the Women's Champions League.

Twente have lost their four Champions League fixtures since the win at Celtic, conceding 19 goals, including their biggest-ever European defeat on Matchday 3 when they went down 0-7 at Real Madrid.

Van Dooren is their top scorer in the group stage having struck three of their six goals.

This is the Dutch side's tenth Women's Champions League appearance but the first time they have reached the group stage.

Under the previous format they reached the round of 16 on three occasions, most recently in 2019/20 when they lost to eventual runners-up Wolfsburg 0-7 (0-6 a, 0-1 h). Barcelona were their conquerors on the two previous occasions they reached the same stage – in 2015/16 (0-2 aggregate) and 2016/17 (0-5).

After a 7-0 victory over Cardiff City to kick off their 2024/25 Women's Champions League campaign on 4 September, Charlotte Hulst and Nikée Van Dijk both scored twice in a 5-0 victory over Valur three days later in the round 1 final.

Twente's round 2 encounter with Croatian champions Osijek was another one-sided affair. Van Dijk was again on target in a 4-1 first-leg victory on 18 September, before the Tukkers again scored four in the second leg in Netherlands to complete an 8-1 aggregate win.

Twente won a record-extending ninth Dutch league title last term, losing just twice in their 22 games to finish two points ahead of previous champions Ajax.

Celtic

This is Celtic's second fixture against Dutch opposition after the Matchday 1 defeat, and their first in Netherlands.

Celtic have conceded at least twice in all five group fixtures this season, losing all of them. Murphy Agnew has scored their only goal, at home to Chelsea on Matchday 3 (1-2).

Celtic kicked off this season's European campaign with a 3-1 win at Finnish side KuPS Kuopio in round 1 on 4 September. Saoirse Noonan's second-half equaliser took the match into extra time, where Noonan added two more goals to complete her hat-trick and ensure progress.

They next defeated Lithuanian outfit Gintra in the round 1 final three days later, Shannon McGregor and Katherine Loferski earning a 2-0 victory for Elena Sadiku's side.

The Ghirls then overcame Vorskla in a two-legged round 2 tie. Both matches took place in Airdrie, with goals from Agnew (5) in the first leg and Emma Lawton (52) and McGregor (63) in the second earning a 3-0 aggregate victory. As a result, Celtic became the first Scottish side to feature in the group stage.

This is Celtic's third Women's Champions League campaign. Their participations in 2021/22 and 2023/24 both ended in round 1.

Celtic have won just two of their last six away games in all competitions (D1 L3).

After taking charge in January, Sadiku helped Celtic become Scottish Women's Premier League champions for the first time. They had an identical record of W26 D4 L2 with Glasgow rivals Rangers, but their superior goal difference clinched the title.
