Arsenal and Bayern München vie for first place in Group C as the two sides meet at Meadow Park on Matchday 6 of the UEFA Women's Champions League.

The English side made it four group stage wins in a row with a 3-1 success against Vålerenga in Oslo on 12 December, when Bayern were 4-0 victors against Juventus.

Both are through to the quarter-finals. Bayern will win the group if they avoid defeat, while a victory for Arsenal would give them first place instead.

Previous meetings

Bayern 5-2 Arsenal
In an action-packed Matchday 1 contest in Munich, Arsenal led through Mariona Caldentey (30) and Laia Codina Panedas (65) made it 2-2 after Glódís Viggósdóttir (43) and Sydney Lohmann (56) had struck for the hosts. However, Three Pernille Harder goals in the final 20 minutes (73, 78, 86) inspired Bayern to victory.

Bayern 1-0 Arsenal
Arsenal 2-0 Bayern
A 39th-minute Lea Schüller header was enough to give Bayern a home victory in the first leg in Munich, but that simply set the stage for an Arsenal comeback eight days later. Home record vs German clubs W3 D2 L4

Arsenal have won just four of their 19 contests against teams from Germany, most recently that victory against Bayern in 2023. They also recorded a pair of victories against Turbine Potsdam in the 2012/12 quarter-finals (2-1 h, 4-3 a) and a 4-0 win against Hoffenheim at Meadow Park on Matchday 2 in 2021/22.

The Gunners lost five of their first six games against German opposition (D1) and failed to win their first three home games (D1 L2) but have been victorious in three of the last six (D1 L2).

Arsenal have won only one of their last eight matches against German teams (D2 L5).

After the Matchday 1 defeat at Bayern, Arsenal have beaten Vålerenga (4-1 h, 3-1 a) and Juventus (4-0 a, 1-0 h) twice since Renée Slegers became interim head coach following Eidevall's departure on 15 October.

Mariona Caldentey and Alessia Russo – who scored twice on Matchday 5 – lead the group stage scoring charts for Arsenal with three goals apiece.

Arsenal were crowned champions of Europe in 2006/07 when they defeated Umeå in a two-legged final. Alex Scott's swerving effort from distance in the final moments of the first leg in Sweden was the only goal across both games.

The Gunners remain the only English club to win the competition. In addition to their 2007 triumph, they have reached the semi-finals on a further six occasions.

This is Arsenal's 17th participation in the Women's Champions League; they are in the group stage for a third time having missed out last season.

Their 2024/25 Women's Champions League journey began with a 6-0 win over Rangers on 4 September at Meadow Park, Caitlin Foord scoring four, before they beat Rosenborg 1-0 in the round 1 final at the same venue three days later. In round 2, the Gunners lost 0-1 in the first leg away to Swedish side BK Häcken, but a 4-0 home victory in the second leg sent them into the group stage.

Arsenal's home record in all competitions in 2024/25 is W7 D2 L1, with victories in the last four.

Arsenal finished third in the Women's Super League last season, five points behind both Manchester City and champions Chelsea, but Eidevall did lead them to a second consecutive FA Women's League Cup title.

Bayern

Away record vs English clubs W0 D0 L3

In addition to the three meetings with Arsenal, Bayern have faced Chelsea four times in the Women's Champions League, winning the two home games 2-1 in the 2017/18 round of 32 second leg and the 2020/21 semi-final first leg. They lost the two away legs, however, 0-1 in 2017/18 and 1-4 on 2020/21, and were eliminated on both occasions.

Bayern have therefore lost all three of their away games against English opponents, scoring one goal and conceding seven.

The German outfit are unbeaten in the group stage this season, their only dropped points coming from a 1-1 draw at Vålerenga on Matchday 4.

Harder has struck in four of Bayern's five group stage fixtures and is the competition's top scorer heading into Matchday 6 with six goals.

This is Bayern's fourth successive group appearance. They progressed to the quarter-finals as section runners-up in both 2021/22 and 2022/23, but did not make it out of Group C last year as they finished third behind Paris Saint-Germain and Ajax.

The German club have reached the semi-finals twice – losing to Chelsea in that 2020/21 tie and previously in 2018/19, when they were knocked out by eventual runners-up Barcelona having lost 0-1 both home and away.

This is Bayern's 11th Women's Champions League appearance, their first coming in 2009/10. This is the tenth season in a row in which they have taken part.

The German side have lost just one of their ten away games in all competitions this season (W7 D2).

Bayern won their sixth Frauen-Bundesliga title last term, and second in a row, finishing seven points clear of Wolfsburg. The Munich club were unbeaten in their 22 games (W19 D3), scoring 60 goals and conceding just eight.
