Bayern München take on eight-time champions Lyon in the first leg of their UEFA Women's Champions League quarter-final.
Lyon won all six games in Group A as they finished ahead of Wolfsburg, Roma and Galatasaray, while Bayern were victorious in four of their six games (D1 L1) in finishing second behind Arsenal in Group C.

Second-half goals from Janice Cayman and Amandine Henry earned Lyon victory in France on Matchday 3 after Kadeisha Buchanan's own goal had given Bayern a first-half advantage. The German side turned the tables in Munich a week later, Saki Kumagai with the only goal of the game.

Bayern were beaten in four of their first six games against French opponents (W1 D1), but have lost just one of their subsequent five (W2 D2).
Their last four games against French clubs have been against Paris Saint-Germain. Bayern won 1-0 in France before a 2-2 home draw in the 2023/24 group stage, and lost 3-4 on aggregate in the 2021/22 quarter-finals (1-2 h, 2-2 a).

Bayern won their sixth Frauen-Bundesliga title last term, and second in a row, finishing seven points clear of Wolfsburg. The Munich side were unbeaten in their 22 games (W19 D3), scoring 60 goals and conceding just eight.

Lyon recorded two victories against Wolfsburg in the group stage (2-0 a, 1-0 h), making it nine wins in their last ten games against German teams.
The French side lost their first fixture in Germany – 1-3 at Duisburg in the 2008/09 semi-final second leg (2-4 agg) – but that November 2021 defeat by Bayern is the only one of the last five away games they have not won.
Lyon have contested seven Champions League finals against German teams, the last four all against Wolfsburg. They lost in 2013, but prevailed in 2016 on penalties and also triumphed in 2018 and 2020. OL lost to Turbine Potsdam in their first final, in 2010, but beat the same opponents 12 months later and also overcame Frankfurt in the 2012 decider.
Lyon boasted the best defensive record in this season's group stage with just one goal conceded in their six games. They scored 19 in defeating Galatasaray (3-0 h, 6-0 a) and Roma (3-0 a, 4-1 h) in addition to their two wins against Wolfsburg.
Les Fenottes scored 11 goals without conceding in their three away games in the competition this season.
They are participating in the quarter-finals for the 16th time – a joint-record with Arsenal. They have won 13 of their previous 15 quarter-final ties, their only defeats coming in 2020/21 versus Paris Saint-Germain (1-0 a, 1-2 h) and 2022/23 against Chelsea (0-1 h, 2-1aet a, 3-4 pens).
The French outfit reached a record 11th final last season, losing 0-2 to Barcelona in Bilbao. Their last success in the competition came when they defeated the same opponents 3-1 in the 2022 final in Turin – their eighth win overall.
In her first season at the club, Kadidiatou Diani topped the scoring charts in the Women's Champions League last season with eight goals – two more than team-mate Ada Hegerberg, the competition's all-time record scorer. Diani scored four goals in this season's group stage, one more than Wendie Renard.
A Lyon side coached by Sonia Bompastor – who was replaced in the summer by Joe Montemurro – won their 17th league title in 2023/24, losing just one game. Those 17 championship successes have come in the past 18 seasons, the exception in 2020/21 when they finished runners-up.
