Bayern are unbeaten in their four encounters with Benfica, all matches taking place in the group stage of successive Women’s Champions League seasons. After a goalless draw in their first meeting on Matchday 1 of the 2021/22 campaign, Bayern were 4-0 winners in Munich on Matchday 6, Gwinn and Klara Bühl on target.
Bayern won both fixtures the following year, triumphing 3-2 in Portugal – Nycole Raysla opening the scoring for the hosts – and 2-0 in Germany with Bühl getting both goals in the second half.
Benfica have contested two other fixtures against German opponents, beating Frankfurt 1-0 at home and drawing 1-1 away in the 2023/24 group stage.
The four fixtures against Benfica are Bayern's only games with Portuguese teams.
Benfica made their Women's Champions League debut in 2020/21, 2026/27 marking their fifth group stage/league phase participation in the last six seasons. Their best result was reaching the quarter-finals in 2023/24 – the only team from Portugal to do so.
The Portuguese side finished 16th in last season's league phase on two points, drawing 1-1 at home against Twente and Paris Saint-Germain but losing their other four fixtures.
This is Bayern's 13th Women's Champions League appearance, their first coming in 2009/10. It is the 12th season in a row in which they have taken part and they have featured in every group stage/league phase since the competition was reformatted in 2021/22, a record they share with Barcelona, Chelsea, OL Lyonnes and Real Madrid.
Last season, Bayern reached the semi-finals for the third time. They were eliminated in the last four by eventual winners Barcelona (1-1 h, 2-4 a), after beating Manchester United in the quarter-finals (3-2 a, 2-1 h). They had finished fourth in the inaugural league phase with a record of W4 D1 L1.
