Göteborg FC have signed United States Under-23 midfielder Ingrid Wells.

The 22-year-old, currently on a training camp with Pia Sundhage's senior US squad ahead of Olympic qualifying, will join her first professional side having graduated from Georgetown University, where she was one of the most successful players in the college's history with a record number of assists. Wells was part of the US side that won the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup.

Coach Torbjörn Nilsson, who has already rung changes in his midfield with the arrival of Ingvild Stensland and departure of Lisa Dahlqvist, said of Wells: "She is exactly what we have been looking for. This girl is a future star and has just been given a chance in the national team." Last season's Swedish runners-up Göteborg face Arsenal LFC in the UEFA Women's Champions League quarter-finals.
