Juventus have unveiled their former midfielder Antonio Conte as the successor to coach Luigi Delneri, who left the Bianconeri a year before the end of his contract after a disappointing campaign.
Conte takes over a side that finished seventh in Serie A this term. During his playing career he made 296 league appearances during a 13-year spell with the Vecchia Signora, winning five Scudettos as well as the 1993 UEFA Cup and the 1996 UEFA Champions League.
The 41-year-old ex-Italian international is duly held in high regard in Turin, with Juventus president Andrea Agnelli stating: "Our target is winning with Antonio Conte, this is our first step towards a brighter future." Conte has coached AC Arezzo, AS Bari, Atalanta BC and AC Siena, and in 2010/11 guided Siena to promotion to Serie A.
"Being here is just like coming home," Conte told a media conference to confirm his arrival. "I don't know how much time we will need to be succesful again but Juventus's history is a clear reminder to us all that we must return to the highest level as soon as possible. The foundations have been laid and if I've accepted the role, it's because I trust in the club's plans."
