Birkirkara FC's Sunday Eboh has suffered a cruciate ligament injury and will miss the rest of the season.

Birkirkara FC defender Sunday Eboh has suffered a cruciate ligament injury and will miss the rest of the season. An MRI scan confirmed that the Nigerian player will need an operation, and he is expected to be out of the game for between six and eight months.

Foreign recruits
The news immediately prompted Birkirkara to step up their search for new signings, with foreign replacements seeming the most likely. Having lost out on Orosco Anoman, who has rejoined Sliema Wanderers FC, and Jaroslav Marx of the Czech Republic, Birkirkara will be giving trials to a striker and a midfield player in the coming days.

Agius agony
Valletta FC have also been hit by injury, with the news that international midfield player Gilbert Agius will be out until February with a groin injury. Valletta face further problems as Bulgarian Milen Penchev is currently on trial at Cypriot club Anorthosis Famagusta FC.

Influential team member
The 32-year-old midfield player has established himself as a key member of Dennis Fenech's side, but received permission to travel to Cyprus for the short trial. Penchev is expected to be back early next week but will miss out on Tuesday's crucial fixture against leaders Sliema Wanderers FC due to suspension.
