R. Standard de Liège were held to a 3-3 draw by R. Charleroi SC in a thrilling encounter at the Communal stadium on Sunday.
Waseige struggling
Former Belgium national coach Robert Waseige continues to struggle in charge of Standard, who lost 3-0 at the hands of R. Excelsior Mouscron last week, and could only look on as his side twice threw away the lead. Ali Lukunku put Standard ahead with the first attack of the game in the fourth minute, heading in Michaël Goossens' cross from the right.
Lukunku double
Charleroi levelled when Adelino Eduardo headed in Alexandre Kolotilko's centre eleven minutes later and Kolotilko then got on the scoresheet himself to put the home side in front, arriving first after Standard keeper Filip Susnjara had blocked Mohammed Mahdavi's header. Ivica Dragutinovic pulled Standard level two minutes into the second half and Lukunku got his second of the game two minutes later to give Waseige's troops the lead once more.
Late drama
However, it was Dariush Yazdani who had the last word for Charleroi, blasting in the game's sixth goal in the 65th minute. Standard are now just one place off the foot of the table, with only one point to their credit.
Excelsior on the up
In the night's other match, Excelsior followed up last week's win with a convincing 2-1 victory over beating of KAA Gent to move second behind RSC Anderlecht. Marcin Zewlakow and Tonci Martic put the home side two goals to the good and, although Gent pulled a goal back through Ahmed Hosny, the visitors went away empty-handed.
