Loacl favourite
The 23-year-old striker was one of the few local players at the Mariupol club, having made his senior debut aged 17. Coming on as a substitute against FC Yavor Krasnopillya, the teenager scored right away to win the hearts of Mariupol fans.

Under-21 caps
He went on to play 103 games, scoring 22 times, was capped for Ukraine at Under-21 level, converting three goals in ten appearances, and hinting that he had the potential to step up to the full squad.

Car crash
This is the sixth player fatality in Ukraine in past ten years. Young internationals Stepan Betsa and Olexiy Sasko were killed in a car crash in 1992, while Yevhen Mamchur and Mykola Kudritsky died year later.

Head injury
Three years ago, FC Dynamo Kyiv player Anriy Khomin died on the road, and in 2001, PFC CSKA Moskva and Ukrainian international goalkeeper Serhiy Perkhun passed away after a head injury sustained in Russian Premier-Liga match.
